At the recent OASA AGM held in Markham this month, our local area was well represented.  Our Pewee Rep Kolts were formally recognized by the OASA Executive for their gold medal success at the Eastern Canadians in Fredericton this past August.  Gilles Butcher and Bruce Young, two KWMBSA executive members, were re-elected to the OASA executive. Bill DeHann of New Hamburg and Brad Thomson of Kitchener (formerly New Dundee) were elected as vice-presidents of the OA. The KWMBSA continues to make its presence felt at the provincial level.

Local Minor Fastball Player Makes Canada's National Squad

posted 2 Nov 2011 16:52 by KWMBSA Webmaster Chris Young

Brandon Horn of Waterloo  has been selected to the Canadian Men's National Fastball roster and will join the team when they compete in the Pan-Am Games in Mexico,  November 18-26, 2011. Brandon played the majority of his minor ball with our association as he suited up with the Waterloo Minor Twins from 1994 - 2003. As a youngster his club won gold at the OASA Squirt and Peewee Provincial Championships. This past August this slick infielder with a great stick at the top of the order helped the Kitchener Twins earn their second straight Gold at the Senior Men's National Championships held in Owen Sound. Last April Brandon helped with our indoor clinics for our house league ball players.

The KWMBSA is proud of Brandon's successful climb up the fastball ladder.  Who knows, we may have one or two present ball players in our association that will make the same journey as Brandon has!

KWMBSA Rep Clubs Complete Successful 2011 Campaign

posted 15 Aug 2011 14:23 by KWMBSA Media Kelly McDonald   [ updated 25 Oct 2011 07:54 by Bruce Young Bruce Young ]

Our four rep ball clubs have completed a very successful 2011 season and the last team standing was the most successful.  The Peewee Kolts eeked out a last inning 2-1 victory over arch rivals, the New Hamburg Heat, to capture Gold at the ECSC held in Trenton, Nova Scotia in late August. The Kolts tallied an overall 5-2 record including a thrilling 1-0 extra inning win over Goulds St. John's, NL.  Our Bantam Kolts also represented Ontario at the Eastern Canadians this summer in St John's, NL. After tieing for first with a 5-1 record in round robin play the Kolts fell 6-4 to the Host club and settled for a fourth place finish. In OASA competitions, the Peewees won their Elimination tournament with a perfect 5-0 record while the Bantams took their Silver with a 4-2 count. At the Provincials the Peewees took Silver while the Bantams again settled for a fourth place finish. Our Squirt Twins captured both OA and local league Gold at their year end tournaments. In Niagara on the Lake the Squirts went undefeated in five games to capture OA Provincial "A" Flight honours.  The Twins also took the NWRMSL pennant gold at the year end in Stratford on the Civic Holiday weekend. Our entry level rep club,  the Mite Kolts played in the South Oxford local travel league and took the Gold at their year end tournament.  They also earned Bronze in the Provincial "A" held in Port Perry in early August.
Two of our teams will receive special recognition by the OASA for their success this past summer.  The Squirt Twins attended the OA Provincial Champions Banquet held in Kitchener in September. The Peewee Kolts will join other Eastern and Canadian Champions Tavistock, Wiarton and Kitchener Senior Twins at a special Meet and Greet ceremony at the OA AGM being held in Markham in November.

Squirt Rep AND Select Take Gold!

posted 15 Aug 2011 14:08 by KWMBSA Media Kelly McDonald   [ updated 16 Aug 2011 10:52 ]

Squirt Twins came out of their regular season in second place, only one game behind Tavistock, and finished as champions of the North Waterloo year end tournament held in Stratford.
They proceeded to take home gold with an undefeated Provincial tournament, winning first game against Springbrook in a mercy 15-0.

Second game played Walkerton beating them 7-3, third another mercy against Cobourg 10-0.

Taking another victory against Tavistock in their fourth game, 13-5.

This brought them into the championship game against Walkerton, the most nailbitting game they have ever played.  Losing going into the top of the 7th with a score of 6-4 due to one bad inning of errors and walks on KW's part, they came back to WIN 7-6.

Kitchener has not won the gold in squirt rep since 1991 and we are proud to say it's back home.

Squirt "Stingers" Select had an equally great Provincial Experience becoming
OASA Provincial Champions in Richmond Hill.
Their tournament featued such highlights as battling Lyn to a 0-0 tie after 7 innings of play - an incredible feat for kids who are 11 years old.  They played 5 games in a single day to claim the title of Champs, beating Georgian Bay in another nailbiter with a final score of 7-6 striking out their last batter with the tying run on thrid base.

A job well done by all the boys with great skill and sportsmanship by all!!

Mite Kolts Win Bronze!

posted 5 Jul 2011 07:15 by KWMBSA Media Kelly McDonald   [ updated 16 Aug 2011 10:29 ]

This past weekend, the mite rep team placed third in the province after going undefeated in their first 3 games.  The mites lost a very close game to Belmore in the bottom of the 7th in a 11-10 game. Then went on to lose to Bellville 4-3 to bring home the Bronze medal. Our young team of 8, 9 and 10 year olds showed very well against the top two teams made up of mostly 10 years.

IThanks to the league, parents, sponsors and especially the players for all the support and effort they gave this year. It is fantastic to come home with a medal when playing teams as tough as these. Congratulations Kolts it was a great year!
