Midget Kolts Win GOLD @ Hillside Tournament!!!

posted 11 Jun 2012, 14:36 by KWMBSA Media Erin

I am proud to say that the K-W Midget Kolts won the Midget tournament held at Hillside over the weekend. After a rather wet start on Saturday the city closed the diamonds on Saturday about noon. The coaches involved in the tournament met and agreed on an abbreviated tournament with round robin games being 75 minutes and only the top team from each pool going on to the final game. The KW Kolts won their 3 round robin games (winning out over Fisherville, Paris, and Caledonia) earning them the right to face Owen Sound (the winner of the other pool who defeated New Hamburg, Cobourg and K-W Black Sox) in the championship game.  Battling heat and the other team, K-W was down 6 – 0 after the top of the first inning.  The Kolts then came back inch by inch to win the game 12 – 7.  The never give up attitude and great effort by all the players were key to winning this game.  Congratulations to the players and  thanks to the other teams for persevering through the weather and the great competition.  An extra special thanks to Bruce Young who Not only organized the tournament, but also found an eighth team to fill out the roster (thanks to the Black Sox),  arranged for a concession stand for the weekend, kept score, and was seen shagging balls when no one else would.  Bruce even tried to make the diamonds playable in the rain on Saturday morning.  Bruce - we really appreciate all you did to make this tournament happen.

Gary Baker – Coach KWMBS Midget Kolts.
